Encryption software is used to hide the identities and locations of visitors to the Dark Web. This makes anonymity on the Dark Web easy, creating the perfect place for illegal activities. A partial list of these activities includes:
Drug sales.
Child pornography distribution.
Firearms sales.
Trading in stolen identities.
Human trafficking.
Fake diplomas to Ivy League schools.
Even purchasing fake Netflix accounts.
The list is longer than that, but you get the idea. The anonymity of the Dark Web can also be a good thing. Journalists, whistleblowers, dissidents who fear political prosecution from their governments or those seeking protection from censorship use the Dark Web to access and share information online.
