Search engine created by Larry Page and Sergey Brin in 1996 at Stanford University, California. Google comes from the word googol, the name for a large number—10 followed by 100 zeros. The Google Search Engine performs 5.6 billion searches a day and is the most popular search engine on the planet. In August 2015, Google was rolled into Alphabet, Inc. the parent company of Google and its subsidiaries.
