A global system of interconnected mass of cables, computers, servers, data centers, satellites, and undersea cables that allow information to travel around the world and into space. The Internet is run by service providers, individual companies, universities, and governments. The Internet was developed to be free and open for everyone. Open standards enable these networks to communicate and make it possible for anyone in the world to use the Internet without requiring permission from a central authority. Since 2016, the UN General Assembly declared Internet access to be a human right.
