Virus

Also called a computer virus. A virus is software that inserts itself into another program and is usually activated by an action the user takes—opening a program, clicking on a link, etc. The virus then self-replicates to take over, corrupt, or destroy data on the host computer and often any computers connected to the same network. A virus is a specific type of malware.
