Make sure you are looking into the front-facing camera, NOT at your picture on the screen. You want to be looking into the camera lens to ensure you don’t appear to be looking somewhere else.

Face into a source of natural light, like a sunny window. If you are taking a photo outside on a sunny day, get the sun directly behind you. Bright sun shining right onto your face can be too harsh.

Bring the iPhone close to you, so your face is in the middle of the frame. Too far away is not flattering.

Don’t hold the iPhone too high. You want to have the selfie camera (or front-facing camera) just above your eye level.
Try to keep the phone parallel to your face and practice with the phone’s angle.

Stand up straight — and get that chin away from your body. It may feel like you are sticking your chin out.

Don’t say cheese… A fake smile with only the lower half of your face engaged isn’t a good look. Try relaxing your face and jaw muscles, place your tongue on the roof of your mouth, and smile without your teeth. Then turn on the charisma and smile with your eyes. See how that works for you.

Tap the Selfie Camera icon. Depending on what operating system you are running, your Selfie Camera icon may look a little different. But it will be in the same place. You are looking for the icon with the circlular arrows.

You use the front-facing camera to take a selfie. The big trick is knowing exactly where your front-facing camera is. It can be hard to find. It is directly oppsite the Home button.

Look directly into the front-facing camera when you are taking a photo or talking on a video call. Looking at yourself on the screen will make it appear as if you’re glancing away.

What is a Selfie?

It’s a self-portrait usually taken with the front-facing camera on a mobile device. But selfies are not always self-portraits. This can be a great way to get a group shot with you in the photo.

What is the purpose of a selfie?

Great question. The whole idea is to show your mood or expression at that moment. Selfies are meant to be very informal pictures that capture you doing something.

Are selfies dangerous?

For some people! It turns out 259 people we reported killed worldwide between 2011 and 2017 in selfie-related incidents. Drowning, falls, and accidents were the leading causes of selfie-related deaths. Google “dangerous selfies” and you’ll see why. Be careful out there, people.
