It seems obvious that you need to know how to turn your iPad on. But it’s equally important to know when to turn it off. For instance, if apps are not behaving themselves, or if your iPad seems to be slow or freezing, a reboot might help.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see Slide to Power Off. This can take a few seconds, so just keep holding the button.

Once you see the screen pictured here, you can let go of the Sleep/Wake button.

Slide the white button you see on your screen from Step 1 to the right to turn the iPad power off. The screen will go black. The power is now off. You can make sure it’s off by pressing the Home Button. When your iPad is off, nothing happens when you press the Home Button.

Before you turn your iPad back on, wait at least 30 seconds.

Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. This can take a few seconds. Keep holding the button until you see the Apple logo. Once you see the screen pictured here, you can let go of the button.
