Hi!

We’re Gluu Technology Society

We are a British Columbia based nonprofit. Since 2015, we’ve helped older adults get the digital skills they need to fully participate in the modern world and age in the home they love. Thanks to funding from the Government of Canada’s Digital Literacy Exchange Program, we offer free digital skills training to Canadian seniors through our exceptional online courses.

What the heck does Gluu mean?
It’s a word that starts a conversation. Gluu is technology education that sticks with you as you learn digital skills. It’s not a fancy acronym, (although we’ve come up with a few). Gluu is a fun, easy-to-remember word, that sticks. Plus, it’s a whole lot cooler than “Seniors Learning to Use Technology Club”.

Gluu Essentials opens up just a few times a year. Register now for Fall 2020. It’s 100%  free. Classes start September 21st.

Here’s what our students have to say…

There are no mere words that can convey the appreciation we have for your timely, and informative classes. If we had it our way Gluu would be declared an essential service. Not only has it enhanced our communication skills with loved ones during this COVID-19 lock down, it has provided us with a productive diversion from the otherwise dull daily routines. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you Linda, and your entire team for your dedication, competence , and empathy. You make our world a much better place to enjoy.

Ed, 86

Linda and her team have turned me, a timid luddite, into a confident Apple user! They are patient, and explain topics using regular English. The atmosphere is very relaxed and unintimidating. I have learned so much. I am so grateful to Linda!

Arlene, 67

Lessons from Linda and the Gluu team are as well presented (and at times even better) online as they were in the traditional classroom. Well organized lessons by knowledgeable Gluu founder. Linda and her team are dedicated to guiding seniors. Repetition, where needed, ensures that no senior is left behind. It’s exactly what is needed now.

Carla, 76

Linda and Gluu have changed my life! My confidence level when handling my iPhone and iPad has soared and I feel my personal data is much more secure. During these Covid times, anything which reduces anxiety is a godsend!

Susan, 72

I am so glad a friend told me about Gluu. I have acquired so much more knowledge about my iPhone. So much to learn and have signed up for the next session.

Joyce, 71

A class with Linda has been the best spent hour in the past few years. Everyone leaves happy and so glad to have conquered some of the mysteries of technology.

Margaret, 81

These are by far the best ‘tech’ classes I have taken – I am becoming almost as smart as my smartphone. Linda is an amazing instructor, and the lessons are straight forward, easy to follow, and practical. I love her for creating a supportive learning environment that is not intimidating. She’s ‘human’, laughs when things don’t go according to plan, and adapts. She wants us to learn and use our new skills to make our lives easier.

Christine, 66

My wife and I are both very pleased and impressed with the work Gluu has done. We will continue to register for their excellent classes. We are both newbies when it comes to iPads and they have helped us so much!!!

Ray, 90

I love all the background information! It really helps put all these new things into an understandable order and gives the new terms a “grounding” instead of ideas and words that just seem to float! The practicality emphasized is just what I need, and Linda explains things so very clearly and in such an organized fashion, being sure to repeat carefully so we can remember. Her class is a priority in my life; I always make the time for it.

Pat, 72

The classes are amazing. Your step by step approach and clear directions are wonderful. You have provided so much information on how to navigate this world we are now in, based on technology. Thank you for all of your efforts and teaching us how to use our devices. We are so lucky to have you in our lives!!

Doris, 70

Cannot believe there was so much to learn about my iPhone. Excellent information.

Pamela, 76

I’m Linda Fawcus.

Gluu Technology Society founder and your Digital Coach for Gluu Essentials

This all started when I gave my 80-something mother her first iPhone, way back in 2012. When she asked me how to use it, I took it from her, offered instructions as I tapped, and handed it back. A few weeks later, when asked why she hadn’t responded to my texts, she stared at me, “You went so darn fast last time, I didn’t learn a thing.” Ouch.

So, I went in search of an organization I could trust that would take her from newbie to confident user, and commit to helping her every step of the way. It didn’t take much searching for reality to hit – there was no such thing. Sure, there were lots of “pieces” out there, but no cohesive program. Paying a private tutor seemed wrong. Digital skills training should not cost an arm and a leg. Aren’t these skills necessary, especially for older adults? Could I find a way to make digital skills training inspiring to seniors and free?

I’ve been a technology entrepreneur for over 27 years and knew how important it was that my mom become a confident user of her mobile device. My siblings and I wanted her to stay connected to her grandchildren and us. She wanted to be part of the changing world around her, and age in the home she loved. Technology was a necessary piece of that puzzle. Giving her an iPhone was not enough. She had to learn to use it and, more importantly, be shown good reasons why it was worth her precious time. So, I decided to solve the problem, and Gluu was born.

“This is not a walk through the User Guide. Gluu Essentials is a thoughtfully designed and classroom-tested program proven to get seniors up and running, and even have some fun with their Apple mobile device.”

For the past four years, I have helped over 16,000 seniors learn to love their technology. Gluu Essentials is the culmination of what we have learned. It’s a 6-Class course that takes seniors on a journey. From figuring out where the buttons are, learning the jargon, becoming digitally secure, to mastering mobile device care. Then we move onto using the apps that make these gizmos shine. This is not a walk through a User Guide. Gluu Essentials is a thoughtfully designed and classroom-tested program proven to get seniors up and running. Heck, we even have some fun while we’re at it.

“My goal of making digital skills training free to seniors was reached when Gluu received funding from the Government of Canada.”

My goal of making digital skills training free to seniors was reached when Gluu received funding from the Government of Canada. Their Digital Literacy Exchange Program enables us to offer all Canadian seniors Gluu Essentials online courses 100% free. Just in time to help seniors beat the social isolation of COVID. Love that.

I hope you can participate in Gluu Essentials and join our inspiring community of older adults. Together you will learn how to use technology to be happier, healthier, and more connected. Only one qualification is needed to join the Gluu Community – to be born before 1964.

“Only one qualification is needed to join the Gluu Community – to be born before 1964.”

This is the course I wanted my mom to have. She was the inspiration for Gluu, was a founding Board Member, and an active Gluu-ster. Her strong opinions about the work we should be doing made us a better organization.

We saw Mom whenever we could, and when we couldn’t, we stayed connected through our devices. The grandkids especially loved her texts peppered with just the right emojis. Her digital skills made our family closer. Well done, Mom.

My mom passed away this summer, with her children, her iPhone, and Apple Watch by her side. She never really loved her iPad. Can’t win ’em all.

See you online,
Linda 🙂
